Hessle Rangers’ first team, of the Humber Premier League, were knocked out of the East Riding Senior Cup in the quarter final stage by Beverley Town. The match was played on the 3G surface at Longcroft and was a competitive encounter in windy conditions.
Both keepers made good saves early on with the best coming from Pipes’ volley which the Beverley stopper got a finger tip on and edged over the bar. A mix up in the Hessle defence from a long, bouncing ball forward cost the first goal which was slid into an empty net with goalkeeper and defenders glaring at each other.
Hessle were the stronger side after the break with the wind behind them and hit the post and the cross bar with outstanding long range efforts. Unfortunately, sub Gardener was given a straight red card for an overly-enthusiastic tackle and the ten men succumbed to another ball over the top as Beverley’s number nine delightfully lobbed the goalkeeper to send them into the last four alongside Hull City, Bridlington Town and Dunnington.
