Like many teams, the team have struggled to play games in the past couple of months due in most part to the consistent wet weather. The girls continue to train hard every week but the reward of a good game of football on a Saturday morning hasn’t always been there.
Two of the games they have managed to play have been away at Grimsby Borough in both league and cup. It’s a fair old journey and the help of parents and coaches to get all of the girls across the bridge is much appreciated. Lawtey and Cheesman scored the Hessle Rangers goals in the league encounter which ended in a 10-2 loss. That was a harsh result after a very good performance but, sadly, the girls ran out of steam in the last ten minutes on a heavy pitch and were punished.
The cup tie was much closer for the most part with Dunn giving Hessle an early lead but Grimsby had a very strong second half and won 6-1. The improvement shown in both games was very encouraging and the girls took that into the next game defeating Malet Lambert 2-0 away from home. Cheesman scored both goals in a very strong team performance. Allison came close to her first goal for the team hitting the foot of the post and special mention has to go to Ball who scored a penalty twice, both disallowed for encroachment, before missing at the third attempt. The second one was a superb strike and was wrongly chalked off which was such a shame.
